Research

Our center includes a broad range of research focused on understanding the causes of autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs), as well as the most effective strategies for supporting autistic individuals and individuals with IDDs. Below are descriptions of ongoing studies at KU as well as links that provide more detailed study descriptions and information on how to participate.

Autism

Our studies of autism explore the strengths and challenges experienced by autistic individuals, the many genetic and non-genetic factors that contribute to autism, and how we can better support autistic individuals across the lifespan. An instructor and a child are seated on the floor playing with a wooden train.

Fragile X associated conditions

We are focused on the challenges, needs and transitions to adulthood among individuals with Fragile X and their families. We also seek to understand the impact of premutations of the Fragile X gene across the lifespan.

Intellectual and developmental disabilities

Our scientists study the causes and optimal approaches to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, including strategies to enhancing the quality of life, self-determination and inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
